Zippity-Doo-Da...

...zippity-ay, my-oh-my what a wonderful day.
What a glorious Monday!

I'M IN!
IT'S OFFICIAL.
I AM A MERCHANDISE CAST MEMBER IN THE FALL 2010 WALT DISNEY WORLD COLLEGE PROGRAM!

It's actually a funny story. I got home from school at noon and went on Facebook to check the group page and see if anyone had gotten an acceptance today-- no one had. I called the Recruiting Office at like 12:30 to check my status. The girl I talked to told me that I was registered under the Disneyland program (which I didn't want so I started freaking out) and not not only that, informed me that my application was incomplete. I was on the brink of tears. So I went online to "finish my application" and it wasn't working. So I called again and got a guy this time, Kevin (who is AWESOME by the way!) and he told me that there was nothing wrong with my application and didn't know what that other girl was trying to tell me. Then I asked for my status. He asked me to confirm my email address and if I had checked my email. So I was like, yeah like 5 minutes ago. So I went on Yahoo! and what was there?

MY PURPLE EMAIL!

13 Days after my interview. Of course I went ballistic. I started screaming and jumping on the bed like a crazy women yelling "I'm going to Disney World!" I'm still shaking as a matter of fact... too much adrenaline pumping through my body. So now I can post vlogs, info blogs, lists, and the like without feeling like an epic fail! I will be watching Disney movies, listening to Disney music, and reading Disney books until I make it down there. Only 168 days until I'm in Disney!

I called my mom and dad and they are so happy for me!
I will see you all down in Florida on August 9, 2010!
Have a Zippity Doo Da Day!

[edit] 8:13pm Check out the new vlog! Also, I just got hired at the Melting Pot today! YAY! Congrats to everyone that got in today as well and keep thinking purple if you haven't gotten an email or have received a pending letter!

Once Upon a Dream...

Quick Update! -- Or not so quick…
Still waiting for my purple email. However, my awesome friend Alyssa received her email for Quick Service Food and Beverage for Fall 2010! Congradulations to her and everyone else who’s been accepted into the program!

Meanwhile I’ve been trying to piece together a pattern with the acceptances. The top three roles people have been getting accepted into are Merchandise, Attractions, and Quick-Service Food and Beverage (QSFB). There have been a couple of people getting Full-Service Food and Beverage (FSFB), and a very few amount of the other roles, such as Concierge, Custodial, BBB Hostess, and Vacation Planners. This, along with the different recruiters and locations of people, I have come up with this theory: A person’s acceptance letter is based on the role they get, the region they live in, the date they interviewed on, and the person that interviewed them. So far no one from my interview date--February 9th-- has gotten accepted. I’ll take this as a good sign for now!

I also had my first Disney purple dream. I dreamed I opened up my email and kept getting all these ones from Disney Recruiting that had headlines like ‘About Housing’, ‘Choosing a Work Location’, etc. but none of them said anything about acceptance. I kept getting more and more until finally I saw one that said ‘Your Invitation’. I opened it and the date said February 20th… mind you I am horrible with dates let alone remember what date it was in my dream… and it said I was accepted for the role of Merchandise. I hope this dream means my purple email is coming soon! I’m just so anxious and could use the pick me up!

Here’s today's I REMEMBER THAT!

The Color of Friendship is a 2000 Disney Channel Original Movie based on actual events about the friendship between two girls; Mahree & Piper, one from the United States and the other from apartheid South Africa, who learn about tolerance and friendship. If you watched the Disney Channel at all you’ve seen this movie. Thanks to Disney, we see a well-off African American family which surprises Mahree since from her country, blacks are still slaves. It’s a good movie with a great message that teaches a little history as well. It’s amazing yet frightening that life was really like this in South Africa-- years after America had already given blacks equal rights.

I won’t be posting another blog until I get my purple email since if I don’t get in it won’t seem like such an epic fail. In the meantime, leave me some questions at formspring.me and I will get back to you!

That's all for now, time to finish watching Pocahontas.
Have a Magical Day!

Interview Day!

About 9:53am I started getting anxious.
My stomach was in knots. My mouth was dry.
Then at 10:11 I started staring at my phone.
My interview was at 10:15. Slowly it got there.
It was exactly 10:16 when she called.

I didn't catch her name (and I was desperately waiting for it but I'm kinda getting the feeling she didn't say it, or if she did it was too fast) but she was in a really good mood. She told me how the interview process was going to be and reminded me that if there was silence after my answers that it was just beause she was finishing a thought on something I said since she would be taking notes.

First she just asked me if my contact information was correct, which location I was applying for (DL or WDW), and which term I was applying for (Fall WOOT WOOT!). We then went over the Disney Look and asked if I could comply. Then I was asked the all-too-expected "Why do you want to work for Disney?"

Next she just told me she wanted to find out a little more about me and asked me to describe my work experience, so I elaborated on that. Then she listed all the roles I checked off and asked if it was correct, followed by asking me my top choices. (Check my introduction blog for a list of roles I checked.)

She then let me know that BBB Hostess and Vacation Planner always have the most applicants and they have the fewest slots available, but that I will be considered for those as well as my entire list. Then she went into the role questions.

Questions for BBB Hostess were:
- It's not required, but do you have any experience in make-up, hair, or nails?
- If a child was scared to get their hair (or anything really) done, what would you do?
- (I think there was another but I honestly can't remember)

Questions for Vacation Planner were:
- Why are you interested in this role?
- Since this is a sales based job, would you be comfortable with meeting sales goals and do you have any experience in this?

Then she said the next couple questions would be general to Merchandise/Vacation Planner:
- Can you describe a time where you made someone feel special?
- Do you have cash handling experience?
- (there were two more but I can't remember these either-- sorry! it's the adrenaline.)

She didn't ask directly about diversity, but she did ask how I would deal with living with roomates, especially ones with different cultures and backgrounds. So I guess this was like a two-in-one question. We wrapped it up talking about what my favorite place in Disney is. She asked me if I had any questions and then explained that the "next process is probably the hardest... the wait."

She said that I would hear between 4-6 weeks. They've been able to send out responses to people who interviewed a few weeks back (Jan. 20-25 I believe) and that they hope to continue this trend. She said I will get something in the mail AND/OR an email. It lasted exactly 27 minutes and 40 seconds.

I'm so excited! I think it went well. I wish I would have given a better answer for my experience in hair but oh well! I hope this helps anyone that has yet to do their interview. I'm sorry I couldn't remember everything!

Have a Magical Day!

WDWCP - F2010

elcome! This is my Walt Disney World College Program Fall 2010 Blog. As this is the first entry, I believe introductions are necessary.

My name is Jazmine and I currently live Pennsylvania. I'm twenty years old and I am a sophomore in college applying for the Fall program at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. Now, if you've never heard of the WDWCP, you might be a little puzzled as to what I am talking about.

The Disney College Program is a program that allows anyone who is enrolled in at least one course in a college at the time of applying to work, learn, and live at Disney-- whether it's the Disneyland Resort or the Walt Disney World Resort. They have three different seasons: Spring, Summer Alumni, and Fall. For Fall, there are three types of sessions: Fall Advantage (May-January), Fall (August-January), Fall Advantage Quarter (June-January). They provide housing and buses to get you to work and to shops around the area. You have the option of taking distance learning classes from your home college, taking classes at Disney University, both, or not taking any classes at all.

I am only in the beginning stages of the application process. On January 28, 2010 I filled out my application. You get to choose what "roles" or jobs you would like to do if you were accepted into the program, for example Attractions, Merchandise, or Custodial. I chose 14 roles but my top five were:

My top five roles are:
1. Bippity Boppity Boutique Hostess
2. Merchandise
3. Attractions
4. Vacation Planner
5. Character Attendant

Next you complete a presentation. I was going to wait until my campus presentation, but I was too anxious so I watched the e-presentation instead. After this, I completed the Web-Based Interview. It's quite simple: you mark if you disagree or agree on a series of questions (i.e. you are always on time- agree or disagree). If you pass this, you are able to move onto the next stage: scheduling an interview. I scheduled mine for February 9th at 10:15 am, so I will let you all know how it goes!

If you want to know anything about me, just leave me a comment/question on formspring.me. Feel free to follow me on here or add me on facebook. I'm hoping to start a vlog soon so check back to see when that will be launched! Congrats to all that have already been accepted, & good luck to those who haven't!

Have a Magical Day!
