Look for the Bare Necessities...

So, as finals are over and I have nothing better to do with my time, I decided that I'd get together an info post about what to bring down there with me. Now, if there is something on here I need to add, please let me know! I also plan on doing some cooking, so that's why there is a lot of random kitchen stuff. There are a lot of things on this list I can just hold off and get when I get down to Florida. I'll have my car, so if the Wal-mart by Vista runs out, I can just cruise on over to a Target or CostCo/BJs/Sam's Club or whatever they have in Florida. This is just the overall things, excluding clothing and shoes. It's not very detailed, but I have a master list that has everything pretty much outlined to the T. Last thing-- since this is an overall list, I'm not personally going to be bringing everything; Alyssa B. is going to be bringing the tv and coffee maker, Cassandra's bringing the router, etc.

Today's IN THE SPOTLIGHT is...
BAGHEERA!
I love this crazy jungle cat! He is extremely wise and insightful-- and while I love Baloo's carefree spirit, Ol' Baggy knows what's up!

Mowgli: Oh, Baloo, I wanna stay with you.
Baloo: Certainly, you do.
Bagheera: Oh? And just how do you think he will survive?
Baloo: "How do you think he will... ” What do you mean how do you think he... He's with me, ain't he? And I'll learn him all I know.
Bagheera: Oh? That shouldn't take too long.

Mowgli: Baloo, get up. Oh, please get up.
Bagheera: Mowgli, try to understand.
Mowgli: Bagheera, what's the matter with him?
Bagheera: You've got to be brave, like Baloo was.
Mowgli: You... you don't mean... Oh, no. Baloo.
Bagheera: Now, now. I know how you feel. But you must remember, Mowgli. Greater love hath no one than he who lays down his life for his friend. Whenever great deeds are remembered in this jungle, one name will stand above all others: our friend, Baloo the bear.
Baloo: He's cracking me up.
Bagheera: The memory of Baloo's sacrifice and bravery will forever be engraved on our saddened hearts.
Baloo: Beautiful.
Bagheera: This spot where Baloo fell will always be a hallowed place in the jungle, for there lies one of nature's noblest creatures.
Baloo: I wish my mother could have heard this.
Bagheera: It's best we leave now. Come along, Man Cub.
Baloo: Hey, don't stop now, Baggy. You're doing great! There's more, lots more!
Bagheera: Why, you big fraud! You-you-you four-flusher! I-I'm fed up!...

Wanna Be Like You

52 Mousekateers following my blog and 30 subscribed to my vlog... WOW. Thanks for tuning into what I have to say, you are all amazing! I promise to do my best at blogging frequently once the program starts... I hate when I find a good blog and it drops off after they write about the first 3 days.

Currently I am looking at dining menus on AllEars.net and planning out my meals at the different restaurants. It's quite exciting-- more exciting than one would think it'd be. I also wanted to get a feel of how much it would cost to eat at these restaurants and this website does a great job at listing prices!

I've also been compiling a list of things I must do while I'm down in Florida. I had one already typed out and then my computer decided it wanted to restart so that the 'updates' could take effect. LAME. I know I won't have time to get all of these done, but I'm going to try super hard! I know a lot of people have similar things they want to do on their lists so if you want to do them together (hint the title being, 'Wanna Be Like You' from The Jungle Book), let me know! So let's try this again (these aren't in any specific order):

[ ] Go on a Disney Cruise as a CP (hopefully for my birthday!)
[ ] Check out DisneyQuest

You Are the Music in Me

Disney movies have this uncanny power to make me want to dance. All of the time. The tunes are always so catchy, the lyrics-- so meaningful. I mean, how do they do it? Well, however they do it, they've got me hooked. This a list of my top ten movies with best score. For me, the music these movies have play a large part on why I like the movie. Sure, you have a kick-ass villain and a great plot. But seriously, it's those Disney jams that keep me watching these movies over and over! This is kinda along the lines of what awesome Josh did on his blog, so enjoy!

Ten. Oliver & Company
I love this movie. Once Upon a Time in New York City and Perfect Isn't Easy are very well-placed in the storyline, but it's Why Should I Worry that allows Oliver & Co. to clench the last spot on this list.

Nine. Beauty and the Beast
Belle, Gaston, Beauty and the Beast, Something There... even the sad music in the beginning stain glass window scenes are all great. It's really Be Out Guest that has won me over though.

Eight. High School Musical 2
I'm embarrassed to even have this movie on my list, but I just can't help how amazingly catch every song on this soundtrack is! Bet On It, Work This Out, Gotta Go My Own Way, and All For One are the jams of this movie. You Are the Music In Me and I Don't Dance aren't half bad either. I know the entire 'routine' to Bet On It, half of the moves to All For One and I'm hoping I can get down the dance to Work This Out. Yes I'm weird.

Seven. The Brave Little Toaster
I rock out to these songs DAILY. Everyone says this movie is so unappreciated because it lacks the amazing music that Disney classics have. Well, the heck with those nay sayers! It's a B-Movie, Worthless, City of Light, and The Cutting Edge are all GREAT. "I worked on a reservation- Who would believe they would love me and leave on a bus back to Old Santa Fe?"

Six. Aladdin/The Return of Jafar/Aladdin & the King of Thieves
I couldn't separate these since I like all of the music from here equally. Obviously the first one has the greats: A Whole New World, Prince Ali, Friend Like Me, and One Jump Ahead-- but Forget About Love, Out of Thin Air, Party Here in Agrabah, and Jafar's You're Only Second Rate are awesome too.

Five. Pocahontas
I sing Pocahontas randomly 24/7. Colors of the Wind, Just Around the River Bend, Steady As the Beating Drum, and Listen With Your Heart are great songs; my favorites are If I Never Knew You and Savages. "I thought our love would be so beautiful, some how we'd make the whole world bright..."

Four. Hercules
I love me some powerful black vocals! (: The Gospel Truth (I, II, and III), I Won't Say I'm in Love, and Zero to Hero are written amazingly. A Star Is Born, Go the Distance, and One Last Hope round out the movie nicely! "Who put the glad in gladiator? HERCULEEEESSSSS!" Hercules just has those songs that make you happy when you're in a funk!

Three. The Little Mermaid
Seriously I have no idea where I'd be without this movie's songs. Under the Sea has got to be one of my all-time favorites. I even have a dance to it. Who doesn't love Part of Your World? Les Poissons and Daughters of Triton crack me up. Kiss the Girl and Poor Unfortunate Souls have to be in my top as well. The background music is beautiful!

Two. The Lion King/The Lion King II: Simba's Pride
Everyone knows The Lion King is awesome but part II is so forgotten about. He Lives In You and Not One of Us are PHENOMENAL. Upendi and Love Will Find a Way aren't bad either. Every song on the original Lion King is good... except that newly added "Morning Report"... yeah that could go. The background music for this is just as powerful as the lead songs, especially the music playing at the end roar when Simba reclaims his throne!

One. The Goofy Movie
Eye to Eye is honestly the best song ever made. No joke. Stand Out, On the Open Road, and After Today are great-- heck, even Lester's Possum Park theme song is great! My least favorite would have to be Nobody Else But You but Eye to Eye's awesomeness cancels that out. "Baby we're seeing it... Eye to Eye... for the first tiiiiiiimmmeeeeee!" Powerline rules. End of story.

Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, it's off to work we go...

I decided to put in a few requests of my own. At first glance, I figured I'd want to work at Animal Kingdom the most, followed by Disney's Hollywood Studios. I didn't want to work at Magic Kingdom simply because I knew the hours were atrocious, and EPCOT didn't have any stores that appealed to me. Now that I've thoroughly done my research on the merchandise locations on Disney property, I've truly figured out the places I can see myself enjoying and having a blast at, places I thought originally I would like, and some I never thought I'd like that look very promising. So here we go, my top whatever dream locations as a Merchandise CM!

Places I DO NOT want to work:
  • Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach; I'd rather not work at a water park... it's a lot harder to make magical moments happen here.
  • Downtown Disney; Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy Downtown Disney. However, it lacks the 'magic' the parks have... must be the McDonald's that throws it off...
  • Disney Resorts; Although I'm sure I'd get tons of guest interaction, I don't know if I could handle a resort being the backdrop of my work 24/7. At least at the parks I'd get to hear a parade, fireworks, etc.
  • stand-alone carts at Animal Kingdom; It always seems 100 degrees hotter at Animal Kingdom and just the thought of standing out in the desert heat with no A/C gives me the willies.
Places where it wouldn't be the end of the world working:
  • Mousegears [Future World, EPCOT]
  • The Emporium [Main Street U.S.A., MK]
  • Agrabah Bazaar [Adventureland, MK]
  • Pirates Bazaar [Adventureland, MK]
  • Frontier Trading Post [Frontierland, MK]
  • Briar Patch [Frontierland, MK]
  • The Dark Room [Hollywood Blvd., DHS]
  • Cover Story [Hollywood Blvd., DHS]
  • Sorcerer Hat Shop [Sorcerer Hat]
  • Animation Courtyard Shops [Animation Courtyard, DHS]
  • Mickey's of Hollywood [Hollywood Blvd., DHS]
  • Disney Outfitters [Discovery Island, AK]
  • Islands Mercantile [Discovery Island, AK]
  • The Outpost Shop [Outside the turnstiles, AK]
Places I WOULD LOVE to work:
  • The Writer's Stop [Streets of America, DHS]
  • Villains in Vogue [Sunset Blvd., DHS]
  • Tinker Bell's Treasures [Fantasyland, MK]
  • The Chapeau [Main Street U.S.A., MK]
  • Sir Mickey's [Fantasyland, MK]
  • Main Street Confectionary [Main Street U.S.A., MK]
  • Sweet Spells [Sunset Blvd., DHS]
  • In Character [Animation Courtyard, DHS]
  • Fantasy Faire [Fantasyland, MK]
  • Stage 1 Co. Store [Streets of America, DHS]
  • Studio Store [Animation Courtyard, DHS]
  • glow carts at any of the parks.

Quick Service Food & Bev!

So you're officially in the Disney College Program. You've accepted your role: QSFB, chosen an arrival date, and are now super pumped about coming to Disney! You look at the Disney College Program Fall 2010 Facebook group page every so often (or if you're me, ever 10 seconds) and you are seeing that a lot of people are requesting locations to work. Now you've become worried because one of two things have happened to you: you've never been to Disney World, or Disney is so huge that you can't possibly think of anywhere to request! Never fear! These are just the main QSFB locals and does not include the different carts that are prominent throughout the parks. As for requesting, nothing is a guarantee, but it doesn't hurt to try. They don't choose where you're going to work until they have a good idea of what they have to work with, so I'd say you still have a window to request. I know that it's hard to request during your interview because depending on what role you chose would change where you'd want to work! I hope this list helped some of you!

What's New? WDW 2010

So it’s a new year. A lot of us won’t get to see Disney until our arrival date—I know I haven’t been to WDW since Sept. ’08. So, because of this, I thought I’d blog about everything new and exciting that’s waiting for us down at our new home!

MAGIC KINGDOM
Barack Obama has finally joined the Hall of Presidents! The attraction has been completely redone, including a new movie with a new narrator (Morgan Freeman) and all-new staging.

Tinker Bell and her fairy friends now pose and sign autographs at the Toontown Hall of Fame.

The seven-month $12 million refurbishment has made Space Mountain more exciting with a darker, quieter track and faster swoops and drops; a more colorful view of space; and an optional souvenir photo.

Wanna Be On Top?

I love Disney villains... almost more than I love the good guys. You can't have a great Disney movie without the triumph of good over evil--a story that has no complicated conflict between protagonist/antagonist isn't exciting. So, I decided to make a list of my top 20 Disney villains.

1. Jafar
2. Scar
3. Ursula
4. Ratigan
5. Hades
6. Hopper
7. Shere Khan
8. Cruella De Vil
9. Oogie Boogie
10. Gov. Radcliffe
11. Gaston
12. Lady Tremaine
13. Maleficent
14. Madame Medusa
15. Dr. Facilier
16. Syndrome
17. Frollo
18. Yzma
19. Sid Phillips
20. Captain Hook

My last top list of the day-- my under-appreciated Disney movie top 10. It's so sad to see the best of Disney's work become overshadowed by the Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, and Disney Princesses. There is so much more to it's past!

1. The Great Mouse Detective
2. James and the Giant Peach
3. The Goofy Movie
4. Meet the Robinsons
5. The Santa Clause
6. The Brave Little Toaster
7. Hercules
8. Ratatouille
9. The Emperor's New Groove
10. George of the Jungle

Honorable Mentions: Hocus Pocus, The Fox and the Hound, The Rescuers, Oliver & Company, and The Black Cauldron

These lists are just my personal opinion, so I hope that no one takes offense! That's it for now, it's getting late and I want to attempt to get on a normal sleeping schedule, so...

Have a Magical Day!
